Why Glamping Is Good For Your Mental Health

Improve Your Mental Health With A Glamping Getaway

Let's be honest, the past few years have had a disastrous impact upon the physical and mental health of many (if not all) of us. A lot of things have been called into question throughout and post-pandemic; we've been provoked to reassess our priorities and start to focus on the simple things in life that make us happy. This change can be seen in the huge increase in businesses and people alike taking mental health more seriously; whether it be a 4 day working week or taking up meditation to start our days - we're all trying to do our bit. Another thing added to that list is the phenomenal spike in Brits heading out for a stay-cation at Glamp sites across the UK. Camping out in the middle of nowhere, where the fresh air is plentiful and you are surrounded by beautiful views, is proven to be good for your soul and mental health.

What Are The Health Benefits?

Boosted Mood:

In new and exciting research, scientists have found a link between having access to green space (such as fields, forests, parks and gardens) and a reduced risk of mental health problems. This leads to a long-term improvement in your mood, and a tremendous increase in life satisfaction. The reasons why time in nature has this incredible effect on us is often related to how our senses connect us to the environment around us - who knew that something as simple as the shapes we see in nature and even the scents that trees give off can stimulate us in a way which helps our minds rest?

Better Sleep:

A group of US scientists recently studied the effects of the natural light-dark cycle on the body’s circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is what’s responsible for letting your body know when it is time to sleep. In the study, the scientists investigated sleep improvement of participants who spent a week camping on the Rocky Mountains.

The campers managed to sleep for an average of 10 hours and went to bed roughly two hours earlier than they would at home. The researchers also reported they had increased activity during the day. The participants’ melatonin levels were tested after the study and the scientists found it increased two and a half hours earlier than before the trip. Melatonin is the hormone produced when our body is getting ready to sleep, which is a strong indicator that the sleep cycle was improved with natural light. They were also exposed to four times more natural sunlight than those at home, due to their time outdoors!

Vitamin D:

An essential nutrient to the body, Vitamin D allows us to absorb calcium and phosphorous; contributing to the strengthening of of our bones and teeth. Being outside gives you more exposure to the sun, and more time in the sun allows for more absorption of vitamin D. Natural sunlight allows our bodies to manually produce Vitamin D - and where better to get all of that good stuff from than a Camping Cabins stay-cation?

Interacting With Wildlife:

Recent studies have found that being around animals and wildlife may be beneficial for our overall well-being. Activities involving observing and interacting with wildlife in their natural habitat, such as bird-watching, can improve people’s feelings of well-being, relaxation, and connection to nature. There is so much out there to observe, especially from the 30 glamp sites we have catered to across the UK.  Whether it be watching the Red Kites circling their prey in the skies above or a lamb taking it's first steps into spring!

Spending Time Solo:

Spending time in nature is one of the most valuable activities we can do for our mental and physical wellbeing. Mother Nature deserves some love and appreciation too! Time alone in the outdoors has a therapeutic effect, relieves stress and restores attention. Alone time in nature can have a calming effect on the mind because it occurs in beautiful, natural and inspirational settings. Why not take a solo trip to Copper Beech Glamping or Bradan Lodges and stay in one of our fantastic Camping Cabins? Spending time on your lonesome can give you an opportunity to clarify thoughts, hopes, dreams and desires. It provides time and space for you to step back, evaluate your life and learn from your experience! Spending time this way easily prepares you to re-engage with your community, relationships and full work schedules.
